R rated movies aren't that great. But I LOVE Game of Thrones and West World type of R sex/violence. I think real life is more gory than PG13 wants you to think.
+1 For the most part, R rated movies are over the top with language, violence, and the gore, but I don't neccessarily rule out movies simply b/c there's an R rating. I think there are some really good R rated movies out there where the gore and violence and language are a major part of the context of the movie - Saving Private Ryan, The Godfather, and the like. In fact, a lot of the historical-drama films (such as PLatoon, Gladiator, Schindler's List, etc.) are often R-rated b/c the violence and gore is so pivotal to the movie.
It's usually the historical movies with an R rating that I love - Their Finest was R, The King's Speech was R, and both were anything but vulgar. I also loved Lady Bird and Eighth Grade, which were both rated R, but fitting and not especially vulgar. I really don't care for GOT or West World gratuitous violence. Although I have been known to sit through an episode or two of The Badlands.
