I think that's more like a normal spending, versus several previous replies, who spend (in my opinion) very little on clothes - which is good if they have no desire to buy more and are content with what they have. |

For myself, I aim for about $400 per season so $1600 per year. I WFH and wear Old Navy, Target with some Madewell, Anthro, Etsy for flair.
DH spends a lot more on custom suits, high end shoes, etc. but he's in a field that demands that attire. I'd say on average, about $3000k year but some years it's a by for a suit so that number goes way down. For 8 yo, maybe $600- 800 a year with the $800 year being the one we buy a new Patagonia jacket, he's one splurge. Baby = hand me downs + $400 year on Old Navy/Target. So all in, almost $6k a year. FYI HHI = $500k |
That seems very little for HHI of 500k. I thought people makeing 500k shop at Saks fifth avenue, Farfetch and like. |
|
Like $100-$300 per year on average? This is for 2 guys.
We buy all of our stuff at Old Navy or Uniqlo. We both work in office settings so our clothes really don't wear out. My 2 pairs of jeans have been my daily for 3 years now. HHI is about $200k. |
| Woah I am clearly on the high end here, probably spend more than $5000? But I have never tallied it up. I don't shop at super high end stores, but I do shop a lot. It all adds up. |
|
Probably no more than $300 total.
One or two pairs of sneakers (I walk in the city a lot and they wear out and I can really feel it). One or two pairs of jeans (holes in the inner thighs). Two-four tops from Old Navy or somewhere like that. |

Folks who say they spend just a few hundred a year on clothes - do you want to buy more, and hold yourself back, or do you have no interest in owning more clothes/replacing what you've got?
|
for me it is easy to do I have never had the urge to spend money on those this. I hate clothes shopping. I spend about $1000 a year and that includes getting walking shoes every three months which covers nearly half of the cost. |
| We spent $3500 this year—family of 3. That’s higher than average for us (HHI ~125k). I went back to working in an office and needed a post-pregnancy new body work wardrobe. Toddler DS went through several shoe growth spurts. DH needed less, but still probably got new jeans, work shirts, running shoes, etc. |

Very little. 38, woman. HHI is $250. I hate shopping, hate trying on clothes....
So, a pair of sneakers, a couple bras and some underwear. Other than that almost nothing. |
It's a money thing for me. I buy what I need and little more. I might buy more if I had a million bucks but my wardrobe is way way down on my list of spending priorities. I've lived long enough like this to realize that I really don't get anything from having a nice pile of clothes in my closet. Chances are, I wouldn't spend the money on clothes even if I had it. |
Seems like you'd being going around in rags. |
|
I don’t know off hand. I would guess about $2k as well, maybe a bit more.
Shoes $300 A couple pair of jeans $200 New tops $300 Underwear/bras $100 Bathing suits $150 Clothes for vacations $500 holiday clothes $250 Summer clothes $300 |
I know. We millennials are now ruining the clothing industry. |
| I spend so much that I cannot even stomach typing the number. HHI is over 1million but I still have way too much stuff. I should buy higher quality and less quantity. Shop at places like JCrew and Bloomingdales |
