Ethnicity on applications?

Yeah George's drivers license and arrest record say white. But when he was charged with a racist killing he was Hispanic.
Very similar to this white identifying parent who wants to claim his child is a URM during the admissions process.

My DCs are 1/4 Asian and 3/4 Caucasian. I put both on their applications, despite the fact that one looks 100% white and the other looks mixed.

My kids have one parent who was born in the Middle East. Damn straight I'd put that on any application that asked about ethnic background. It happens to be true. I wouldn't identify them as any non-white racial category or as an underrepresented minority, if that was the question asked. And I wouldn't identify either kid (nor would they identify themselves) as a 'person of color,' but I know many people from the Middle East who routinely describe themselves that way.

On the census, people from the Middle East are indicated to choose white.

On the Ravenna application, they request "ethnicity" not "race." My understanding is that race is determined by how you look (hair, bone structure, skin color, etc.) whereas ethnicity is determined by the social and cultural groups you belong to. And.. you can have multiple ethnicities.

What do we put on the application? Child wants to include all three and identifies as all three. Parent that is 1/2 Latino and 1/2 Middle Eastern feels that is disingenuous. Thoughts?

As a true POC, this is so darn frustrating. Y'all white people want to have all the things. Your kid is white. If he's not being hassled by cops for his hoodie or looking suspect at TSA, your kid is white.
