| Amtrak between Richmond and BWI is our go-to when we can’t drive to pick up or deliver or can’t muster the will to face traffic. (Looking at you, Fredericksburg.) UR has a free shuttle to the train station and we’ve paid as little as $25 for a one-way ticket. Train is pretty nice compared to a cramped bus. |

Tech has Campus Connect that leaves the Blacksburg and Arlington campuses twice a day. It's not cheap $90 or so, but has free wifi. That's separate from the commercial operation that stops in multiple places along the way and is cheaper.

My DS has used HomeRide many times. It's reliable and convenient. He likes riding to/from VT on it and I love not having to drive. |
DS at JMU has also had a good experience with them. |
Guess why they do this? Because if you work there, they can assign you to one of their other campuses. I just talked to a faculty member about this. Apparently, the people who work at the adult education centers aren't always there because they have sought a post at one. |
| I used to take Homeride from UVA and I graduated in 1998! |
We have used Homeride at least six times for UVA/Fairfax runs. Also, there is a train that runs just a few blocks from UVA to Alexandria or Union station. We used that at Thanksgiving. Homeride is less expensive. They hire large limo buses to drive the students back and for forth fromm this area. |
