Where do you live in SF? Where would you live if you work at San Francisco university? Would it be easier to take public transportation to work or drive?

I live near CalTrain, in SoMa. SFU has multiple locations, so I can't answer your second question. I don't have a car. I walk, use mass transit, or Uber everywhere within the city.

I will have to check again but I think it's the main campus.

I'll be honest with you - I didn't go to school here, so I don't really know where any schools are, aside from the ones I've sent my daughter to and she's only in high school. But I know people who live by the ocean yet work in the Financial District. They just accept that their commutes will be an hour each way. Don't live in the Tenderloin or Mid-Market, and you'll be fine.

Why can't your wife find a new job? Sounds like she needs to hustle.

OP here. My wife would definitely look for a new job if her job can't be converted to telework.

It's possible but your lifestyle would be like grad school.

Op here. Thanks. They gave me a salary range but it sounds like I need to negotiable on this. I think I won't consider the position unless it's at least 120k.

$99,450 is 105% median income for two people, so their household income will be too much to apply for low income housing. He'll be able to sign up for 110% median income housing, though. Maximum monthly rent for 110% median income housing is (with utilities) $1710 for single room occupancy, $2280 for studio, $2604 for 1 bedroom, $2930 for 2 bedrooms, $3256 for 3 bedrooms, $3516 for 4 bedrooms, and $3778 for 5 bedrooms. Low income for HUD means that 60% of the people who live in your county have a higher income than you. It's not based on rent, child care, medical expenses, insurance rates, groceries, etc.
