| My child will have a full week of spring break, no matter what the calendar says. |
Maybe for stay at home parents. They just had a 2 winter break and 2 weeks later you all want a 5-day weekend? I would be fine if they took all the random September days and put them back on the calendar. They kill me at work. |
All 2 of them. (And they're not random.) https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/calendar/0285.18_2018-19_SchoolCalendar.pdf |
MCPS closes for MLK Day and Inauguration Day. The question is whether it is practical to have school on Tuesday when school will be closed Monday and Wednesday, especially given that lots of parents in this area will have Monday off for the federal holiday. Attendance probably wouldn’t be great. |
| I also like the idea of a five day week, it’s a way to score a quick ski trip to Vermont! |
You had your say last Spring. This issue is settled for now. |
| More people said they would miss school on Veteran's Day than the holidays in September in the results from the survey. School is always open on Veteran's Day. They should have scheduled school on the holidays in September and see if the responses were accurate given the low response rate to the survey. There were no reports of widespread absences on Veteran's Day, which was observed on 11/12 this year. The school board should leave spring break as a full 5 weekday break and stop with thinking long weekends will fly. They got major backlash with the shortened break this year. |
| There was a high response rate to the survey and it was well publicized. Move on. |
I hate the Hogan restrictions on this calendar. When I was a kid we had a full week of winter break in February and a full week in April. This is ridiculous. |
The federal government closes for inauguration day. It is not some wacky thing that MCPS made up. |
Do your homework. The Governor didn't create this calendar. |
The Governor put a lot of restrictions on local government to create a calendar. |
| I’m glad the Governor made restrictions otherwise MCPS would have year round schooling which would pose problems with DD’s enrichment activities. |
