Mixers are informal parties usually with 1 sorority and 1 fraternity and are almost always at fraternity houses. Fraternities throw them, but plan them with the assistance of the sorority social chair.
Semi-formal and formal events may be planned by a sorority or a fraternity and each member asks his/her own date. Semi-formals or formals can be spring or fall events, although formals do tend to be in the spring. Not all groups hold a semi-formal at all. Lots of groups hold bonfires, barn dances, or other casual date parties instead of a semi-formal. Members can bring a date or a friend. |
My sorority planned and hosted mixers, a semi-formal in the fall, and a formal in the spring. Fraternities hosted mixers, a formal, Beach Weekend, and Mountain Weekend. |
Huh? Sororities throw tons of parties. /Tri-Delt |
to reiterate the poster to whom you're replying, it's school specific. |
Sororities throw tons of parties but they differ from frat parties in two key ways: 1, Nationals don’t allow drinking in sorority houses, so sorority parties aren’t held at the house, unlike fraternity parties which are usually held at the frat house. 2, Sorority parties aren’t open to the “public,” and frat parties usually are. Public meaning random other students who heard about the party from a friend who’s older cousin is in the frat or whatever. Sorority parties are usually date-type parties, and being that they’re held off-campus anyway, are only open to those sorority members + invited guests. |
