Keeping a list of gun activities, rapes, and hazing incidents in MCPS

What????

The stories coming out of MCPS are predominantly about MCPS staff abusing children? How is that the fault of a parent or the young child?? In cases where it is a student bullying another student, do you think that the parents of the bullied child are not reporting this to the school? Is it the parents fault that they didn't make sure their smaller child earned a black belt before upper elementary school so he could defend himself because the school shouldn't be expected to create a safe environment???

The problem is that parents are raising their children to think doing these things is acceptable. School is where these kids are for most of their day, so that's where the incidents take place. You're fooling yourself if you think these incidents don't take place outside of school. The glaring issue is not with the schools. The schools are the easy scapegoat in all of this and a way for parents to point fingers at others when they're the ones who have failed their children. The glaring issue is that children are not being raised by their parents to understand how serious these offenses are, and how morally and ethically wrong they are.

Except when it's teachers sexually abusing kids. Or security staff sexually abusing kids. Or bus drivers sexually abusing kids. How do you blame parents for all those (so many) incidents? No, it's MCPS as a whole who is failing our children.

That’s funny. You really think MCPS tells you about everything? You must be incredibly gullible. Most incidents get swept under the rug. This rape would have also, but luckily the story got picked up by the media.

Rape? You mean hazing, don’t you?

What? How can you make that assertion when you don’t have stats for MCPS.

My sister teaches in another large school district and she is pretty horrified by the stories that come out of MCPS. Let alone the stuff that MCPS tried to sweep under the rug.

DP. How can you make the assertion that it IS worse? Your sister is anecdote, not data.

In what general area is your sister’s school? MCPS is a large, URBAN system - this is not remotely like most smaller suburban school systems.

Its all in their database. MCPS makes the prinicipals log every incident in their central database. Its all there.

Except when you have principals who don't log in the incident or choose a lesser offense to describe the incident.

There used to be individual safety reports for schools. Was last year's data published yet?

Agree completely. Definitely lots of incidents at our ES that do not get logged.

so gun activities and rapes aren't being logged or reported? That's a pretty big assumption.
