Suddenly getting very violent intrusive thoughts ever since I went back to work

OP, it's anxiety. Go see a professional.

It sounds like OCD with intrusive thoughts. Perhaps you’re experiencing a hormonal shift or life stressor/transition that’s triggering it. The important thing to recognize is that these are just thoughts, and they can’t hurt you. You’re probably less likely to rip your nails off than someone without this particular obsession, in all honesty.

Everyone has intrusive thoughts, to some degree, but people with OCD react to them with horror and dismay, while people withour OCD can let them go without internalizing them.

You mentioned you’ve had some intrusive thoughts in the past; it’s not unusual for OCD/anxiety to wax and wane. It’s also possible it’s related to post-partum anxiety that wasn’t addressed early on.

There’s a center for OCD treatment in Silver Spring, headed by Dr. Mancuso, I believe. They might be able to help you break this cycle; treatment is targeted and usually short-term.

I’m sorry this is causing you such stress. There’s help out there, for sure.

Agree with the others that it sounds like anxiety. You are going through a transition, even if you like your job. I posted in your other thread that I have a specific violent intrusive thought (my teeth crumbling) when my anxiety is bad. Ask your GP for a referral to a therapist.

Because this is DCUM, and I am familiar with the demographics of this particular site. Are you?

I can relate to this. I agree it sounds like OCD which is a manifestation of anxiety. Can you call a therapist, OP? You will get through this! Hang in there!

Op. I don't have insurance or a lot of free time to go to appointments. I am working full time and I am in school on the weekends. I am going to hold off until my insurance kicks in. Thank you for the links. They are really helpful. This is all very new for me. Working and studying does help.
