ARe these the right people to do that?

District at Large: Reiley
District 1 Maria Blaeuer
District 3 Lynn Amano
District 5 - Brenda Wolfe

I don't know about Wolfe, but agree with the rest. That's how I voted.

Yep. Wolfe is unopposed, so who knows. I don't like Amano or O'Neill, so that was an unfortunate choice. I'm excited to see what Reiley and Blaeuer might being. Hope they win.

Yes, I'm excited for Reiley and Blaeuer as well. They understand how to get MCPS back on track.

Pat O'Neill is atrocious and HAS to go. Watch last year's BOE meetings and you'll see how she bullies the newbies (like Jeanette Dixon). It is awful. Thank goodness someone (Lynn Amano) is running against her.

I don't have strong feelings on Karla v. Julie, but Docca also really needs to go. She is seriously losing faculties. I handed her a simple spreadsheet last year and she couldn't figure out how to read it. I'm sorry, but she's just too old. Thank goodness Maria swooped in at the last minute to run against her!

PLEASE VOTE for Amano and Blaeuer!

I am excited for Reiley too.

Also she used the word "retarded" in a school board meeting: https://bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/2017/School-Notes-Docca-Apologizes-for-Using-the-Word-Retarded-During-Public-Meeting/

I didn't vote for her.

She has the mental capacity of a child. But still she spent tons of money to put up giant billboards with her face on it and ‘Judy Docca for Schoolboard!’.
Clearly being on the board is her personal hobby - it’s all about Judy getting her jollies and having something to do before she dies. Never mind the kids - their needs aren’t a factor here.
If she is voted in again it will show just how pathetic and uninformed MoCo voters are.

I am, too. Agree Amano vs. O'Neill is not great, but I'm on the 'anyone but O'Neill' train.

wow.. you are really mean. I didn't vote for Docca but, there's no need for this kind of ugliness. If you think you can do better, by all means, run for BOE. Let's see how well you can do.

Y’all need to educate those in your life who don’t pay attention to this stuff. Some people don’t tend to take the time to have an opinion on things like the school board.

My DH told me that if he doesn’t know anything about the candidates for the ‘lesser votes’ he just skips it. Lesser votes being little things like the school board.

He had been educated on who to vote for now.

She has no business running!! If she was a decent person she wouldn’t be running much less paying to put giant posters of herself up everywhere.
She does not deserve respect because of her own actions and arrogance.

That doesn't mean you have to be mean. You don't need to respect someone to not be mean. It's called being civil. I hope you teach your children better.

And again, if she has no business running, then please run for BOE next time since you seem to know who has business running for BOE and who doesn't.

District at large:

Julie Reiley believes that gifted education is a type of special education which should be offered and enhanced. She is a Yale educated lawyer who plans to work with Annapolis closely for school funding.

Karla Silvestre was a driving force behind the new GT admission rules. She discussed it at the recent Clarksburg forum, and confirmed to a parent in a private discission after that she was a supporter and a voter of the new rules which emphasize where students live (i.e. diversity) over their test scores. This was widely publicised on NextDoor forums.
Good to know. Reiley it is. (in principle I'm actually fine with changes to GT admission rules, provided it's done in a thoughtful way with proper communication. Since I know Silvestre is a driving force behind the cluster**** this year, I will be sure to vote for her opponent and recommend to everyone I know they do the same).
The improvements to GT admissions were a great success and long overdue. Unfortunately, many parents who used to game the system when applicants were limited to students whose parents nominated them were agitated by the more competitive system that came with universal screening.

Once you put yourself in a political position you have to accept all that goes with it.

I would have been happy if someone had paid to run anti Judy Docca ads, but alas no one did. If I had extra money I seriously would have paid for someone to tell it - meanly. My mother taught me to fight for something that’s right and not to accept something like this, thank you very much.

Here’s a political ad for you - is this nicer do you think?

By all means, attack her positions, but unless she starts personally attacking her opponents, I don't see why you have to make disparaging remarks about her personally.

Not sure what the point of referencing another ugly political ad was for. Was that supposed to make me think that what you said is fine?

In the American with Disabilities Act ... GT is protected.

No dog in the fight I have kids that are LD not GT.
