We went through hell with my cat who passed away 1.5 years ago; I have always loved cats and my kids beg every day for one. But then reading threads like this bring me right back and I don’t know that I’ll ever take the risk again.

Between us DH and I have had 7 cats. Only one did not use the litter box properly. We currently have 3, and all use the litter box perfectly. I wouldn't let one bad experience throw you off. It is not typical behavior. With a rescued cat that's been fostered, you'll get detailed info about its temperament and habits. You can be clear you're concerned about having the same problem again.

Dr Perl was my vet for many years. He said as a housecall vet, a disproportionate amount of his practice involves euthanizing pets, but he does so with gentle kindness. Ive had to call on him twice...
