| I think the Q5 is hideous |
| I went from a Lexus RX 350 to a Toyota Highlander... not happy, back seat is terrible |
| We love our Q5. Driving a Highlander feels like piloting a boat compared to it. Light years better ride than the Highlander or the RX. |
| I'd consider the Acura MDX and the VW Atlas as well. |
Assuming you haven’t actually drive the RX then...Q5 is a wheezy 4 cylinder. |
| My Lexus RX is the most reliable car I've ever owned. Seriously built to last, and it's never needed more than routine maintenance. |
| I would add the new Volkswagen Atlas to your list. My SIL just got one and it is SO nice. Very luxurious interior and much more spacious inside than my 2017 Highlander. |
| I like driving my Q5 but I've had more issues with that car than any other I've ever owned - and I don't even have 30,000 miles on it. I'll be going back to Toyota for my next car. |
We just bought a new 2018 RX for $7,000 off MSRP and a couple of throw-ins (2 of the ipad tablet holders that latch onto the rer head rests for our kids, weather floor mats for winter). Another point, there is a hump in the middle of the floor of the Q5 second row whereas the RX floor is flat across - which for someone sitting in the middle of the second row makes a difference in ride comfort - not a bog deal but something we noticed. |
What problems have you had? |
|
Love my Q5 - fun and zippy and no problems after 7 years.
(Can we please stop with the two-decades sho Audi are junk lore - it really makes you sound jerky or naive). Much smaller than the highlander, though. The backseat will be tight if your kids are big or you want to take a third kid. |
I don’t think pp has a two decades old Audi. His has 30,000 miles and he said it’s had a lot of problems. |
| I'd go with the Highlander. First, Japanese for reliability (kicks out the Audi). So, fancy (Lexus) or plain (Highlander). I'm a basic A to B transportation guy, not fussy, so Highlander. If it makes you happier, go with the Lexus. |
I have indeed driven the RX. There is absolutely zero road feel. It has more body roll in corners than anything I’ve ever driven. Felt horribly mushy. The turbo 4 in the Q5 is a great engine, but the 3.0 turbo in the SQ5 is phenomenal. The car is so broadly acclaimed for a reason. |
| I have an Acura MDX and the third row is decent but I would think it would be cramped for a teenager. My husband has an Audi Q5 and the backseat is a joke. I can't stand that car. I'd consider your other options. |
