Lotus Birth

I understand that many mothers want to wait until the placenta is done pulsing before cutting it. Studies show the benefits of that. I'm not saying that I think you're a bad mother for leaving it intact until it falls off naturally, but I guess i'm puzzled of the logic behind this. I don't see any advantage to carrying it around. Maybe I didn't google enough.

I personally am not interested in Lotus birth, but I have read a little bit about it. As far as I understand it, the purpose of it is more spiritual or emotional, rather than physical. I think it is kind of gross, but it does not bother me if someone else were to do it.

LOL, sure it does. But there are plenty of koo-koo things that people do for spiritual reasons, eh? I kind of see it as one of those things that just doesn't matter; it sure doesn't hurt anyone even if it is crazy sounding.

I too think it does not matter, but I still think these people are extremely strange. Same as I think Scientologists and Hari Krishna's are a bunch of half baked cookies. Carrying around a placenta in a bowl? As another poster pointed out, even in the animal kingdom the mothers bite off the cord. I bet these same women are breastfeeding their kids until they are into elementary school.
