| I like Sequoias but the gas mileage is terrible, and if it is just you two, I'd get an rx 350 or the smaller nx. Both will hold luggage, be extremely nice and most importantly, reliable and safe. |

| OP, it's nice to have the feature of blind spot detection for changing lanes. Back-up camera of course. Cruise control. Dual driver/passenger climate settings. Make sure the seats/headrests are very comfortable for your body. Do you want to be climbing up into an SUV? I wouldn't. |

Based on what? My guess is that your impression is way out of date and ill informed. Have you driven a Niro? Read anything about them? Toyota and Honda also used to have a terrible reputation for quality. So did American cars for a while. Stay up to date. Niros get docked in most ratings for having less power, but they are being compared to cars with much worse mpgs. Of course fuel economy has a cost. The environment is worth it. Niros get about 50 mpg, have a 500 mile range, and are really well designed. The only comparable car on the market is a Prius, and they are sinfully ugly and less comfortable. OP wants an SUV for road trips. The Niro is plenty big enough for 2 people and looks like an SUV. It has the best mileage in that category. OP, go take a test drive. See what you think. Don't rely on old information. |

I have the Lexus hybrid SUV. I have had it for 6 years, and 100,000 miles. It has been in the shop exactly once, and that was for a broken USB port. Seriously, a crazy reliable and comfortable car. |

Toyota Camry, or Toyota Avalon if you want to get fancy. All Toyota's have the latest safety features nowadays (except self-driving).
Most Toyotas and Hondas sold in the US are assembled in the USA, for those saying not to buy American cars. |

| You can also look at a Genesis (spun off from Hyundai). I rode quite a lot in the backseat of a Genesis and it was quite comfy! |

My parents love their Toyota Avalon. Huge trunk. Adults can sit comfortably in the rear seat.
Most people have a strong preference for either an SUV or sedan. What is yours? For example, some like sitting up higher in an SUV. Others may have trouble climbing up into large SUV. We've been really happy with our Toyota Highlander. |

Same with my parents. And, expecting age will bring slower reaction time and declining vision, they appreciate all the bells and whistles like back-up cameras and other safety systems. |

| We love our Prius V - which is a wagon style - lots of room for luggage, very spacious interior and we are over 6' tall. Needless to say awesome gas saver and much less maintenance than all gas autos. |
