Trump has villified journalists for the past few years and has even incited his followers to violence against them at his rallies. So yes, every time a journalist is murdered or killed (which happens often), it makes me angry at Trump for his dangerous rhetoric, even if he isn't "at fault" for that particular journalist's death. F*ck him.

The journalists in this country deserve to be vilified. Daily. Also the late night talk show hosts and almost all of hollywierd. Sad this Saudi guy was killed perhaps by his own country. Love that the liberals on this forum think it’s trump’s fault.

Not Trump's fault, but Trump is a contributing factor. Who do you think is supplying Saudi Arabia with the weapons they are using in Yemen? The US military is even aiding the attacks.

That all started before Trump took office. Obama was just as guilty of the Yemen slaughter. I despise Trump as much as anyone but the Yemen war was something he inherited, not created.

And don't forget the squashing of the Bahrain uprising, where the majority asked for more input into the government only to be crushed by the minority government.

Chill. It was an honest question. As a journalist Khashoggi can't have been unaware of threats against him, which is why it is curious he would do this.

This is a very peculiar story. Reports are that he suffered a gruesome murder. Yet, his girlfriend is not believing he is dead. Is she just in denial? Or, are reports of his death really not accurate?

The Saudi journalist feared to be dead after visiting his country’s consulate in Turkey last week was “killed in a barbaric way,” one of his friends revealed Sunday, following conversations with officials who reportedly told the friend to “make your funeral preparations.”

The comments about Jamal Khashoggi come as Turkish officials are investigating his whereabouts. Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor and critic of the Saudi government, was last seen Tuesday entering the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage to a Turkish woman.

"What was explained to us is this: He was killed, make your funeral preparations," Turan Kislakci, the head of the Turkish-Arab Media Association, told the Associated Press. "We called a few other places, these are lower officials, but they said: 'We have evidence he was killed in a barbaric way, we will announce it tomorrow or the day after.'"

Kislakci also alleged, based on conversations with officials he did not name, that Khashoggi, 59, was made to "faint," then was dismembered. He also said he believes Turkish officials soon will announce the findings of their investigation.

A Turkish official separately told The Associated Press that authorities believe Khashoggi was killed at the Saudi Consulate, while another said it was a "high probability" that Khashoggi’s body was taken away.

The Washington Post reported Saturday, citing two sources familiar with the investigation, that the Kingdom allegedly sent a 15-member team to carry out the “preplanned murder.”

However, Khashoggi’s fiancé, Hatice Cengiz, believes that he may still be alive.

“Jamal was not killed and I do not believe he was killed,” she wrote on Twitter, according to Reuters.

Khashoggi was living in the U.S. for the past year in self-imposed exile following the ascension of Prince Mohammed, now next in line to succeed his father, the 82-year-old King Salman.

Saudi officials, meanwhile, have blasted the allegations and have insisted that Khashoggi walked out of the property on his own.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency early Sunday morning carried a statement from the Istanbul Consulate that "strongly denounced these baseless allegations," and expressed doubt that they came from Turkish officials that are informed of the investigation or are authorized to comment on the issue. It said Saudi Arabia sent a team of investigators to help look into the case.

I was critical of Obama about Yemen (and many other things). I have also criticized US support for the Bahrain's reaction to the uprising and the Saudi intervention. But, MBS gained power under Trump and Trump is in the Oval Office now. Trump claims to be correcting every bad thing he inherited from Obama. So he can't really pass the buck on this.

Rumor has it that the plan was to convince Khashoggi to return to KSA and resume his regime-loving ways voluntarily or by kidnapping. An indirect indication of that is that the government sent a team of 15 to take care of business; if the plan was to kill him, that most certainly does not require fifteen people! Something went wrong and he either refused to go or wasn't amenable to convincing.

"Humble roots" is a relative term when it comes to Saudi Arabia. Nic Robertson knows the Middle East very well.
