Yes, this. My best friend is a stay at home mom who is a real homebody but she is absolutely the funniest and most interesting person I know. She tells the best stories while still engaging and involving others in the conversation. It's a real gift.

My sister was a SAHM for many years and was like this. She told the greatest and most hilarious stories about her kids. She would have the people around her in tears laughing and people to this day will ask me how her kids are doing and for updates. People who don't even really know her kids but heard some of these stories over the years.

Agree, it's a gift. Or I guess, having a good personality.

I have a cousin who has never gotten a proper job after graduating college. He's 28 and he makes his living by doing odd jobs and spends his life traveling.

He's also had some bizarrely interesting jobs and always has amazing stories to tell when he is in the states! Some of his favorite jobs have been blackjack dealer on a riverboat, mattress tester, working on a Disney cruise ship, and oddly enough painting fire hydrants.

He's been to almost every continent and is working his way towards Antarctica in the near future.

I couldn't live such a security-less, nomadic lifestyle.

I have a friend who lost a baby girl and she was VERY much looking forward to this little girl after 3 beautiful boys. She had a room full of pink everything after multiple showers and a large extended family celebration, as girls were very rare in her family. She contacted a pregnancy center and said she would like to have a "shower" for anyone in crisis expecting a girl. She put all her stuff in her van and drove it over and "hosted" the shower. She has done this every year for 8 years. She always hosts a shower for "a little girl" in honor of her little girl. She's gone through different agencies and one time adopted a specific family but its always done on the same date ( 4 weeks after the birth date) and its always a shower to _________ from ______(her daughters name). I know nothing else about this woman but I just really think thats remarkable to mold something so painful into something so positive. She has a page "Larla's annual shower" where you can donate items …anything unused NIP or very lightly used. She has a picture wall in her house of all the showers and all the babies who she "showers" are given a bday gift every year too. Its just really inspiring. When Im having a bad day I think about how that lady really turned sh*t around and I can too. The one time I met her (I'm a social worker and our paths crossed) she went "I weed out the cheap looking crap because I want these girls to have the best of the best of the best." Now these are women that barely had bus fair to the shower itself so its just a really amazing experience for them.

I know a guy who took a job fighting(killing) pirates off the east coast of Africa for several years, several years ago.

He'd also done PMC (private military contractor/mercenary) work in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Serbia/Bosnia, DRC, Liberia and other places with low intensity wars and insurgencies.

He's retired now... I've been begging him to let me write a book and screenplay about his life. It's fascinating.
