What do washed up famous musicians do for money?

My relative who was a touring musician for a number of years now teaches high school.

I used to work for many still-famous bands, and some band members gave lessons in years they didn't tour. Some had side jobs with other bands. Only one kept a full-time job and then opened a business with his wife, and she ran it while he toured.

Have a friend who made enough from very meager royalties and having his songs played as intro music occasionally on the old Letterman show to cover the mortgage and taxes on a modes midwest house for years until it was paid off.

Now he rents the house and does session work for aspiring singers in L.A.

But there are tons of other examples. They play lots of small venues, county fairs, etc. toad the Wet Sprocket was playing a Fairfax County fair a few years ago. Tiffany was doing free concerts at Disney last month.

But there are tons of other examples. They play lots of small venues, county fairs, etc. toad the Wet Sprocket was playing a Fairfax County fair a few years ago. Tiffany was doing free concerts at Disney last month.

Exactly. Goo Goo Dolls played Crystal City about 10 years ago. Then there are special 80s cruises, etc where bands play. And so many bands just keep on touring and going to increasingly smaller venues. Playing at smaller Native American run casinos around the country is very popular. At ones near me, a lot of old hair metal bands continue to come through and play.

Even if you are were a one-hit wonder, you are always going to be a bigger draw than the staple bar band. Always money to be made.

Agree w above poster. Most will always get some kind of a gig if they had a hit or two. Couple of years ago the guy who sang, "she blinded me with science" played at a Md shopping center.
