Any pregnant women NOT deciding to get the H1N1 vaccine?

Edit: I intend to get the H1N1 vaccine this year.

"I know everyone talks this to death, but when did a safety for newborns become personal decisions to eschew? I think it is odd thinking is all. We would never not buckle our children in while in the car. We would never not bring them to a dr if they were really sick, but then when the drs and medical professionals recommend something, suddenly we have morals and medical knowledge regarding vaccines."

OP here. The reason why I am hesitant is that I am concerned about the risks to my baby. I am concerned about my well being but also about safety of my newborn. Do I get the vaccinate and definitely subject my newborn to unknown risks associated with the chemicals in the vaccine? or Do I not vaccinate and maybe subject my newborn to a potentially but not always harmful flu virus? This is a very tough call to make.

OP, I would add in the bold part above to your calculation.

For me it was a pretty easy decision (I got the vaccine) by looking at the possible outcomes. If you don't vaccinate, worst case is you and/or newborn get a bad case of H1N1 and have life-threatening complications and possibly die. If you do vaccinate, you severely reduce the odds of that happening but there is a risk, most likely a small one, of potential, unknown but likely not life-threatening consequences. I'd rather chance possible side effects than possible death.

Absolutely, as with any drug, there is a risk-benefit calculation to be made. But I feel confident that the studies show the flu vaccine has a very very very very low risk for a very very very very high benefit. (The H1N1 flu vaccine has the SAME safety profile as the seasonal flu vac, which has been around for AGES. H1N1 would have been included in the seasonal flu vac if it had been ready in time, and they we wouldn't even be having these arguments.)

To the poster who refuses to get it but wants everyone else to--absolutely you are a hypocrite, and a moocher. I'm trying very hard not to use any worse language here, but you will get what you deserve.

I agree, although not with wishing you disease. Expecting the PUBLIC (have you SEEN us lately) to protect you and your baby is stupid, lazy, and frankly, just plain arrogant.

Good luck with raising a child with THAT kind of attitude.
