How to break up?

Been through two break ups in the past (long relationships) - one cheated on me so that was easy to end. The other broke up with me.

Been with current BF for 8months and just don’t think we are a good fit. It is multiple small things plus some larger issues. But, he isn’t a bag person.

Do it at his place or in a private-ish public place. "Tom, I think you're a good person, but this relationship just isn't a good fit overall and I don't want to continue it. I wish you all the best in the future."

Then leave. If there is stuff to exchange, agree to drop it off somewhere for him. If he has stuff of yours, seriously consider whether it's stuff you actually need.

You could take the high road like my erstwhile fiance who moved 2,000 miles away and broke up with me by letter. (This was in the pre-internet days; today it would undoubtedly have been an email.)

I might have taken the stuff I really want this past weekend when I left....

Step 1: Stop having sex with him (and I'm going to assume that you haven't stopped yet)

It might be that he knows this is coming up and also does not believe this is a good match.

"I don't think we have the kind of mutual outlook that would lead to a longer term situation and it is better if each of us looks for the person who can be this."
