Why don't people have credit cards?

The real question is why does she have to pay out of pocket for basic medical care in what is allegedly a first world country.

I used to babysit for 2 kids who are now 29 and 26. Neither one of them has been able to get a credit card. I was shocked by this because I assumed credit card companies were still handing them out on college campuses like when I was in college. "What should I put down on the line that asks for annual income?" The rep said to leave it blank. Apparently an income was not a requirement to get a credit card back then. Times have changed.

OP, you've obviously never been off that pedestal of privilege and seen how millions of people in the US live.

First, many lower income folks do not qualify for credit cards, whether for low income, poor credit, or too much existing debt. There are many who have cards that are maxed out. There are many who don't want to get into the cycle of exponential debt that comes when you use credit that you cannot afford to pay off and the interest compounds on itself so that you charge an amount and end up owing more than double that amount.

People who live paycheck to paycheck may fall into more than one of these categories.

I could easily get a credit card, don’t have one because I don’t really see the need for one.

Um, to establish credit?

To get free money for things you would normally buy anyway?

To be honest, I didnt buy into credit cards until my friends from business school influenced me and taught me how to “play the game.” It’s eye opening, fun, and a good time to have free vacations off of paying rent.

Guess the person w/ no need never stays in a hotel. They can tie up your whole debit card acct right when you check-in which by itself is at least one reason to have credit

She said she lives paycheck to paycheck and that her daughter had a VERY bad case/infection. She wasn't asking for advice, she was asking for donations and apparently got someone to pay for it. My question is, why doesn't she have a credit card to just pay for the treatment and pay it back in installments. Is she just looking for handouts or maybe she doesn't quality for a credit card if she has extremely bad credit?

I haven't had a credit card since 2010. And I don't live paycheck to paycheck. I just don't want or need one.

No credit car PP. I've stayed in hotels, lived oveseas, and bought a new car all without having a credit card. It's totally doable. You just plan accordingly.

I have a friend who can only qualify to 1 credit card and it has a 500 limit. It's usually maxed out.

Seems like DCUM is or has recently become a forum where people think they are supposed to post their random moronic thoughts just for fun, because it's anonymous and they don't have to endure the eyerolls and incredulous looks on people's faces they would in real life if they said their thoughts out loud.
