Isn’t this a pro-illegal immigrant area? These people are fleeing gang violence in their home countries and coming here for a better life. They are sending their children across the border after traveling hundreds of miles in dangerous situations.
So you hate the gov’t for enforcing immigration laws as long as they don’t show up in your town looking for help. Liberal NIMBY at its finest. |
Not everyone here is pro illegal immigration. It's also stupid for people to flee across the border to avoid gangs only to go to D.C... how many murders have there been this year to date? |
| I'm not pro encouraging illegal immigration - fine with a variety of legal concerns. These people are pretty economic immigrants primarily who come to this area for the welcoming sanctuary laws and because there are families and an established community here. What is happening in this is situation is what liberal supporters of illegal immigration don't want to acknowledge - that we have our own residents in need and limited resources. Carry on. |
Sorry- fine with a variety of legal "reforms" |
| DC resident here. I am fine with this. Immigrants are part of DC's economy. |
Well you get what you pay for. D.C. Picks the worst local politicians. Good luck! |
The city government is not just the mayor's office and DCPS. What about public safety, parks and rec, or assisting the homeless. DCPS wastes enough money as it is. I personally witnessed brand new, solid wood, custom-made $14,000 doors being tossed in a roll away dumpster, after the modernization of a MS. As a former DCPS employee, I can assure you that $900,000 won't be used wisely. $900,000 is the cost of about 8 FT teachers for a year. But, OP, why do you care, don't you live outside of DC? |
|
Mayor Bowser never spent a day as a student in DCPS.
Neither did the chair of education comm. Grosso. Their parents sent them to private schools. |
When did you teach for DCPS? You don't hear this complaints nowadays. |
DC spends a huge amount on it schools. the need to spend on schools does not mean it should spend on nothing else. I doubt PP is really pushing for higher school funding, but just using the schools against something for a group he dislikes. BTW, there are also private orgs that donate to education. |
Let's hope! |
Well, don’t come to Maryland -.the embassy of El Salvador is here in MoCo. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/politics/el-salvadors-ambassador-thanks-county-council-for-resolution-calling-for-protecting-tps-daca/ |
Hello - the gang violence has followed them here. Legal immigration that is well thought out is fine. Disorganized illegal immigration is not. |
Exactly. And now it's the US's problem. Not just El Salvador's. Yeah but let all the dreamers in |
We should be spending some time and yes money on fixing things in these countries, not just bringing people here. That makes no sense as the line of people ‘fleeing their country’ will never end. And wouldn’t it be better to have legal immigrants coming here who haven’t been subjected to terrible violence first? None of this makes any good sense. It appears that the US wants damaged, desperate people so that they can underpay them which is just immoral and gross. |
