Quick Poll: Will you be getting Reg Flu and/or H1N1 shot?

Anonymous
Already got the regular flu shot and planning to get the H1N1 shot as well. Don't really care about thimerosal much, personally.

Has anyone been told to space the regular flu shot and H1N1? I'm getting the H1N1 next Saturday at my OBs office but work is offering the regular flu shot on Monday. Do I get the regular on Monday then get the H1N1 5 days later? Is that okay? Anyone been given different advice?

Yes, you can get both shots the same day. They typically do it in a different arm. Any doubt, ask your OB of course, but the CDC is saying this is okay.

The CDC says this below - it sounds confusing but as a pregnant woman, you will be given the inactivated shot, so yes (not eligible for live virus which is what the flumist is).

Can the seasonal vaccine and the 2009 H1N1 vaccine be given at the same time?
Inactivated 2009 H1N1 vaccine can be administered at the same visit as any other vaccine, including pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine. Live 2009 H1N1 vaccine can be administered at the same visit as any other live or inactivated vaccine EXCEPT seasonal live attenuated influenza vaccine.

Seasonal flu shot - Got it at work.

H1N1 - Got it in Manassas Mall clinic after 4 hours wait.

My husband is a family doctor in Fairfax county. They don't even have H1N1 flu shots in the office yet. He has seen many high-fever patients tested positive for flu lately. scary.

PP, Regarding the preservative free regular flu shot, I got it at the Safeway in Kensington but I think they all carry it. I know people in Virginia got at local stores as well. It is called Fluzone I believe. I also called the Rockville one as well and they had it. Make sure you ask if they have the preservative free one and not thermisol free (it is the same thing) but the person answering the phone said they didn't when I asked for the thermisol free one but when I actually stopped by the store and asked for the preservative free one they said they had it. I also knew it was called Fluzone based on my conversation with the Rockville store. It was very fast (no wait) and they took my insurance so no charge.

Good luck.
