Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| Do you have a good midwife or doula? |
Yes, besides plain old luck (which comes more readily with second babies) good midwives are experts at helping women deliver even large babies with minimal damage. Doulas are great for helping encourage natural birth (which means you can push - and STOP pushing - most effectively) as well as helping use productive positions. No matter what though, you are going to be okay getting your baby out. Second babies come out so much easier than first babies, even if they are a bit bigger. Do not be afraid. |
| I am 5-6, 117 lbs (only 140 lbs at the birth) and pushed out a baby with a 95 percentile head. I had a 2nd degree tear, but no damage to speak of. You'll be fine. |

Your weight and height have nothing to do with how easy a baby comes of you, PPs.
I had a 9 lb 3 ounce baby, delivered vaginally with only a tiny bit of internal tearing. How did I do it? The epidural was critical, so I could sleep through early contractions and rest, and save my energy for..yes, OVER TWO HOURS of pushing. It helped that I had a wonderful delivery nurse, and that no one ever threatened a c-section - I really didn't want one, if I could avoid it. And my baby came out with a VERY misshapen conehead. |
