My mother married a man with a terminal illness ...

Did she take care of him while he was dying? Did she take him to medical appts., make him food, feed him, bathe him, dress him in his last few months? Were the man's children around?
I don't think it is right but who wants to be alone their last year of life?

Nope! She always loved to travel and they went on many trips. He died a few days after returning from a trip to the Bahamas. According to my mother, he wasn’t feeling well and two days later he was admitted to the hospital. Within 48 hours he passed. I do not think his sons were there since she did not mention them. My sibling was there.

I am on the West Coast, they are in Virginia.

Look, the man was ill but obviously well enough to travel. He doesn't sound incompetent. Your mother didn't "have him" or make him do anything. He chose to do so. For now, butt out and DO assume he knew what what was doing and DON'T assume his family situation.

How do you know about the will change? When's the funeral? Are you going to attend? The shi^ is gonna fly.

The bigger question is your relationship with your other who has done something so horrible.

I would not describe somebody with a terminal illness as "sound"... do you know any people with terminal illnesses?

Unfortunately, I have known many. Being diagnosed as terminal doesn't automatically mean you have lost your faculties or make you incompetent to make decisions. It sounds like OP hates her mother and thus, automatically assumes the worst without having the facts. Maybe the man's children were assholes who caused him nothing but pain and she was the ray of sunshine that made his final months joyful.

Terrible reminder to carry life ins for your own kids; not just spouse. I have a trust. No new wife is going to be living off my corpse.

Um John McCain is terminally and has still a relatively activeSenaor. There are tonsil people wihtumors and iter diseases that are "fine" , but just have a shortened life.

OP- what's the relationship with the dad and his kids? They didnt even attend the wedding? Did anybody contact them when their dad was in the hospital?

How many assests did this guy have?

Elsewhere on DCUM, we are told that adult children are entitled to nothing.

My Mother herself told me about the will yesterday over the phone. I don’t know when the funeral is but do know he had everything planned beforehand. I have a limited relationship with my Mother. She doesn’t expect me to attend.

I believe he has a decent relationship with his kids but we were all kept apart during thier short marriage. Nobody attended the wedding as they gave us two days notice and had the ceremony at his home. He has quite a bit of property and appeared well off, but I do not know the extent.
