This is true. They joined Arlington as a team, leaving Bethesda South, but Osman coached this team even before Bethesda South. Osman is one of the few good coaches in our area and is a really nice guy. I am happy that he and the boys got the win. However, several of the key players from this team, including Osman's son, have moved to DCU academy, which is likely to affect this Arlington team. |
That's quite a commitment to move across the country. Alexandria has such a great program. |
| I am lost. Most of this thread appears to congratulate Alexandria for Arlington's success. Did both clubs win 02 futsal championships? |
This thread is supposed to be about Alexandria. I have no idea why there is Arlington stuff on it. So i'll just clarify what was on here about Alexandria. I hate to report the Arlington stuff just to make the thread make more sense, but I do hope the Arlington people just make their own thread. The first was congratulating ASA on winning the US Futsal National Chanpionship in July in CA. If you know futsal, then you know what a huge accomplishment that was. That's a very skilled group of boys. Then the 2nd just recently posted was that one of ASA's players will be moving across the country to play for Portland's academy. There was also some discussion about ASA's coaches as well. |

With the monopoly and pyramid scheme DC United is forming---more local players that aren't with one of the Clubs that are part of the current 'buddy system' are going to have to leave the DC area in order to get seen/fresh eyes at an MLS Academy. What I didn't know (my kids are young) is that DC United could block any player from the area from going to play for a different MLS Academy. I think that is bullshit. Especially, when they are well-developed and DCU had absolutely zero to do with it. I feel like the Academy system in the area is created a more CLOSED system. Turned down by D.C. United academy, 15-year-old (Alexandria Soccer) moves cross-country alone for another: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/soccer-insider/wp/2018/09/22/turned-down-by-d-c-united-academy-15-year-old-moves-cross-country-alone-for-another/ |
Oh please. DCU is creating neither a monopoly nor a "pyramid scheme". They will happily take any kid from any club or program if they think he'll make the team better. You need to be able to separate marketing from reality. If what is reported in he article is accurate, they just didn't rate this kid for whatever reason. He's clearly good enough that others are willing to at least give him a chance. Hopefully it works out well for him. The MLS homegrown rights are a separate issue. |
| The post was a cut and paste of Washington Post's article, not the poster's comment on DCU. |
MLS Homegrown rights is a separate issue but a BS one. Why should a club that has never had anything to do with my son's development have a say where he can go. DCU could have even blocked the move if they didn't come into agreement. Wonder if they would have if it was to a closer rival like Philadelphia or NY? |
+100 Not only that—but they won’t even bother to look at some players so f@ck them if a player finds another academy willing to sign them. It’s like the douchebag travel clubs that won’t release a little kid’s player card. DCU has never been in top 2/3 of standings either. Notoriously dead last for some time. |
