The way to tell the difference between flying ants and termites is to look at the wings:
The wings of flying ants are two lengths (front wings are shorter than the back wings). The wings of termites are the same length. |

Carpenter ants are the giant black juicy ants. They may or may not have wings, depending on where they are in their life-cycle.
