Looking for some kind of "urban resort" in the US. Any ideas?

I'm sorry you don't want to go back to California. Terranea is in Rancho Palos Verdes. You can be at the resort and look at the ocean and not realize that LA is right behind you. The property was beautiful but was close enough to do things in LA.

Vegas in summer? Sounds miserable. However it will be cheap.

+1 for Louisville! There is great food, it's an easy city to walk around and there are direct flights that are well-timed for a weekend trip.

Europe. Monaco has a pool scene, or the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. The time change works in your favor.

Vegas in summer is the pits. You basically run from one air conditioned space to the next.

I remember flying to Vegas one August and checking the temperature in the newspaper, and the only place in the world that was hotter than Las Vegas that day was Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

4 seasons baltimore! It is amazing. Stayed there with DH and it is super nice. Amazing views of the harbor, the spa is incredible, and the pool overlooks the whole skyline. Also in safe and upcoming neighborhood right on the water and walkable to cute neighborhoods like Federal Hill(recommend for nightlife and restaurants) which is on the other side of the harbor, and fells point a few blocks away with tons of restaurants and bars too. Power plant live is nearby too. 10/10 recommend I thought it would be some dumpy area but wow!

What time of year? Phoenix/Scottsdale has some terrific resorts, but I wouldn't go now!
