Berkeley! Wtf...can’t even spell. Hope your dc can. |
Nope. She and I are both ADHD, and our manifestation makes us terrible spellers. Fortunately, we are both very bright, despite being terrible spellers. Usually, spellcheck takes care of it. But, I haven’t found a way to spellcheck on DCUM when I post from an iPad. Thanks for being enough of an asshat to be the second person to point it out. The first time was unnecessary. You know what I am asking. They second time is just being a jerk. Anyone else want to point out I misspelled Berkeley? Come one, come all. Don’t discuss this thread and don’t answer the question. Just have everyone who posts points out my spelling error. ![]() Seriously, do you have nothing better to do than go around an correct people spelling? It is an especially dick move when the error was already pointed out and acknowledged. I’m guessing you can’t answer the actually question? |
Like someone posted on the last page, McLean has two to attend Berkeley this fall. |
At least one TJ kid going to Berkeley. |
This is the GCM data as reported in the Rank & File school newspaper. Someone asked about W&M - 15 attending. All data is self-reported - only 416 students of approximately 510 graduates.

Thanks, PP ^. Just saw the newspaper as well. Interesting that after initial panic that VT wasn't accepting as many students this year, at least 31 grads are going there.
And GMU seems to have taken a big jump in popularity there as well. |
About 6-10 TJ kids went to Berkeley in the last 3 years. Has it become tougher to gain admission to Berkeley because UCs are reducing OOS students this year or is the Berkeley number not available for this year? |
From these data posted, McLean is indeed showing its strength in its superior academic quality among the non-magnet public schools. Apparently it's the elite colleges' favorite. Good for them.
|
Quite a few legacies at McLean |
Yes, actually surprised at the marked difference between McLean and the other fcps schools' results. I wasn't expecting that much of a distinct difference between nova public hs. |
This is demographics, not ability or achievement. Most of the private colleges listed in the McLean’s matriculation list cost around $70k/year. Out of state publics cost around $40-50k. You would likely find a similar list at Langley or Madison. |
Probably so. Also, the top publics in MCPS (that, unlike McLean, aren't losing 40 of their top kids to TJ or an equivalent every year) look better than Langley/McLean/Madison. |
OOS admissions is extremely tough, even for many TJ students who also will have other options, but word of mouth could also be a factor. The UC system overall has had funding issues for years and they place a huge emphasis on research and graduate study vs. undergraduate study in general. With high tuition, some may think it is not as good of a deal as alternatives. |
I have had two cousins who were rejected by Berkeley, attend UVA in recent years. |
I should have specified that these two cousins are from Los Angeles. |
