We don't buy the huge things of ketchup or mustard, but things like cholula, red hot, and nando's peri peri sauce - hell yeah! |
For instance, this two 12 oz. pack of cholula was $7.99 at costco - https://www.amazon.com/Cholula-Original-Hot-Sauce-Pack/dp/B00PACY7B6/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_325_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=BAXHTFZNZZ3A4ZDHFXRH&th=1 I keep one at home and take one to work, so no storage issues. And this was the regular costco price, not on sale. Yes, they have sales. |
And this nando's peri peri sauce is something like $11 or $12 at costco -
https://www.amazon.com/Nandos-Peri-Peri-Sauce-Medium-500g/dp/B01HIRTBPC/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1528302587&sr=1-3&keywords=nando%27s+peri+peri+sauce+medium yes, I take my hot sauces seriously. no, it's not enough if you're just buying hot sauces, but if you're located not too far, work at buying just things you need, and good with managing/eating/freezing your groceries, then you end up saving. |
For us, no, not cheaper overall but you can get certain things for a great price. I did a 3 month experiment where I did the bulk of my grocery shopping at costco. The bill was really high and I was consciously trying to cut corners and keep it reasonable. We now go there for random specialty items trips only. |
also, do you drink wine? the wines are significantly cheaper. for instance, meiomi is $17.99 regular price at costco, $19.99 on sale at HT in DC. This is just one example. |
The A1 comes in bundled 4 bottles. The ketchup in 3 packs. Soy does come in a gallon. |
What!? They have sriracha? I need it by the gallon - is that how they sell it? |
The dog food is a lot cheaper for the quality of dog food you get (we have a big dog that can go through a costco sized bag in about 6 weeks). The kirkland products are good quality and cheaper too, so for something that keeps (like tuna fish, pasta, toilet paper) it is worth it for us. We don't have storage issues though. Cleaning supplies (when they are on sale) are an amazing deal. We also buy things like the shredded mozzarella cheese and portion it out and freeze it, which makes for an amazing deal. Their vacation packages are a good deal, gas prices are amazing too. It works really well for us because we live close to one that has a gas station, have storage space, and a spare freezer.
We buy the soy sauce and just refill a smaller bottle as needed--it doesn't need to be refrigerated after opening. Makes making a teriyaki marinade easy too. |
We have two teenage boys, and a dog. Yes it's cheaper! And given the demographic of my household, we have no problem eating the large quantities. Once both boys are in college, I don't know if we'll continue. |
When I factor in standing in line forever, and fighting my way through the parking lot, it isn’t cheaper on most things. I do get my RX meds from there at a good price. I do the rest of the bulk shopping st BJs. |
Snacks for summer are when I get the most bang for my membership. Nutrigrain bars, Pop chips, fruit snacks, fig bars, yogurts. With the kids not in school we go through these items so quickly!
And gas. |
No necessarily cheaper, but I like to buy certain things there that we use a lot of: milk, eggs, frozen pizzas, meat, veggie patties, spaghetti sauce, Cheerios, fun snacks, beer & wine, croissants, baby wipes, etc.
Also their eyeglasses are insanely cheap and I always fill up on gas. |
80% yes.
I still have to backfill at the local grocery store for specific items. And sometimes grocery stores will have really good sales on a handful of items. You just have to watch the sale prices. |
It's not cheaper if you end up throwing it away. Shopping at Costco requires strategic thinking. |
You pay for both a Costco and a BJs membership? You might have a warehouse shopping problem. |
