Thanks for the info. FWIW, it looks like this never happens in the DCC though. |
That may be so, but you could say that about anywhere in the current Forest Knolls zone, and we know 200+ FK kids are going to have to move to MK/PC. |
It doesn't currently happen, but it has in the past. Highland used to split between Newport Mill and Sligo, for example. |
Well Hopefully that doesn’t happen. Forest knolls is be far the best school of the 3 (Forest Knolls, SSIMS, Northwood)...would be a shame to lose |
| MCPS does not like split articulation. Oakland Terrace used to split between Sligo and Newport Mill and when Singer was built they eliminated that split articulation. I remember that it was discussed in the planning phase. |
Individual families can have very different experiences in the same school at the same time. For us, FKES has been nothing short of amazing, but I can completely understand that others might not agree. Is the apparent move that South Four Corners would go to Pinecrest and then Pinecrest and Montgomery Knolls be divided up differently? Wondering if kid #2 will end up in a different elementary from kid #1, and also wondering if any kid will have to move midstream! Anyone seen this happen in the past? |
If you're asking if Pine Crest and Montgomery Knolls will become un-paired, no. They share the same boundaries, and both schools are getting additions to help relieve the FKES overcrowding. |
|
Bumping this. We are also at FK and concerned that our second might end up elsewhere.
Are there any updates? I think FK had a meeting recently about this but I wasn't able to go. Is there any hope that siblings might get grandfathered in? |
No updates but keep in mind that many kids split apart for high school anyway so its shouldn't matter if your second ends up somewhere else. The DCC is different than other areas in this respect with many kids trying to get into magnets, choosing to go private, or switching schools within the consortium. Northwood isn't that attractive to people outside Northwood so if you end up being rezoned for a school with a magnet or special program chances are your kids' smart friends would be there anyway. |
|
Rising 5th graders are always allowed to stay at their existing elementary school.
Is rezoning at FK eminent? |
Never say never. B-CC already has several Silver Spring neighborhoods in its boundaries, along with some Kensington, so I would not be surprised to see it get in the mix one bit. |
The new additions at Montgomery Knolls and Pine Crest are supposed to be completed by Sept. 2020. |
MCPS does a boundary study 18 months before a new school or addition opens. Which means the boundary study will start in 2018, and the results would be announced in 2019. |
I would expect the boundary study to start in the spring, since 18 months before September 2020 is March 2019. |
Confirmed: Planning Study: A boundary study is recommended for Forest Knolls, Montgomery Knolls, and Pine Crest elemen- tary schools to relieve the overutilization at Forest Knolls Elementary School. The scope of the boundary school will include the three elementary schools as well as the middle school articulation to Eastern and Silver Spring International middle schools for these three elementary schools. The bound- ary study will occur in spring 2019, with Board of Education action scheduled for November 2019. http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP20_Chap4_DCC.pdf |
