What do you mean by no injections?

No intramuscular injections. The protocol at SG requires you to inject PIO(progesterone in oil) and another shot into your butt. It was very painful for me. At GW the only injection was subcutaneous and that’s not painful. It goes into your belly.

you can skip the injections. It's not like they know what you did.

Skip the injections and do what? Who is going to give you the Rx for the suppositories? They’ll know if your progesterone levels are increasing as they are supposed to

This is a dangerous and ignorant thing to say. In an IVF pregnancy you MUST have progesterone supplementation or you will miscarry. In a natural pregnancy there is a corpus luteum that naturally creates the progesterone. In IVF there isn’t one so you absolutely have to supplement. You cannot just decide yourself not to do the PIO and not get progesterone through another medium (Endometrin, crinone, etc.)

who cares? either you are pregnant or you are not.

I did high dose at SG with terrible results. I did low dose at GW and have two babies. Go with Dr F. He knows what he’s doing.

OP here, thanks so much for all your insight. I'm still waiting on my dang bloodwork and then I'll decide which clinic somehow...

PP 16:34 that went from SG to GW and had two babies with low dose protocol- are you AMA and/or DOR if you don't me asking?

OP here- finally got my labs back. AMH was .26, which is dismal, right? Estradiol (is this the same as estrogen?) was <5, which according to the reference range, puts me postmenopausal?!! (I get my period and ovulate every month...). AFC was 7. FSH was normal, 9.5, and Thyroid TPO was normal. I don't see my dr to discuss these results for another month!
Any advice or success stories from ladies out there that have been in similar boats? Feeling pretty depressed about these results.

16:34 here. I am AMA and probably considered DOR - AF count around 8 most of the time. Don't remember by AMH.

Thanks 16:34, that's encouraging!

Hello Anonymous(5/16/18 23:11)

I am 36 and in same boat as you with DOR and tried one cycle at SG with high dose and retrieved one egg. Embryo didn't form and doc asked me to go DE route. I have upcoming appointment with Dr Payson and will try and get an appointment with Dr Frankfurter(GW). I wanted to check with you on whom did you decide and any update on your progress. I would appreciate any feedback which will help me decide the clinic/Drs.

Can I ask what your AMH and FSH are? What meds are in your protocol?

I forget what my AMH and FSH was but at GW I had subcutaneous injections, it also involves estrogen patches and progesterone capsules that you insert vaginally. If you get a positive test then you continue on the patches and capsules until you’re 10 weeks along.

How many eggs did you get retrieved? Do you have decreased ovarian reserve? I'm your age and met with GW recently, they told me I have less than a 10% chance of success with one round of IVF so I'm not sure I want to do it given the cost.

I don’t have DOR. With my first retrieval at SG they retrieved 26 eggs, 18 were fertilized and 13 made it to blast. Of those 13, only 5 were PGS tested normal. With GW, they didn’t want to pump me full of drugs and they retrieved 18, fertilized 23, 7 made it to blast and only one tested normal. I don’t remember what they said my chances were but it was low. Definitely less than 30 I want to say.

Only five tested normal? Only a whole basketball team? Poor you.

OP here- PP 21:29, I haven't decided yet, but leaning towards GW. Still undergoing testing. Have done bloodwork, HSG, saline sono, etc. Awaiting results from saline sono and specific protocol info before I decide...

I don't know CCRM/Payson, and my issues were different than yours. But I can tell you that I truly believe the reason I have two kids is because of Dr. F and his thoroughness. I'd done several rounds with a different RE at CFA, and he was basically suggesting continuing the same. At our first appt, Dr. F went through my chart and all of my previous cycles with me...and explained to me both what my previous RE's reasoning was for whatever he did (in a way that made much more sense than previous RE's explanations) and also his own thinking about what various past test results meant. He said, though, that looking over everything, there was one niggling thing that didn't quite add up...so even though it was probably NBD, he wanted to do another test over...and do it himself (not let it cycle through to any doctor at GW). That test confused him, so he consulted with another gynecology specialist (who's no longer at GW)...and ultimately diagnosed me with uterine scarring that previous RE had totally missed.

I got surgery to remove it, and then pregnant on my next round of IVF. And a couple of years later pregnant again with one of the frozen embryos from that same cycle. Dr. F was fantastic throughout. He's the doctor I'd want for everything, if that were possible. He's exactly the kind of thorough, intelligent, and yet still human, person you want caring for you through one of the worst periods in your life.

I had a very similar experience with Dr. F, except that I haven’t gotten pregnant yet. But he has given me a good chance whereas before I had none. He’s a great doctor and also a very kind, very genuine person. I’m so glad I am his patient!
