Because many girls don’t make Capital. Some are good players who may not have any other decent choices. This happens to many Pride players especially. They either are the best and make Capital or have to scramble, along with many Stars black players, to find a high school team. Cardinal and MC Elite may take a few but they have full or mostly full rosters of girls aging up from their 8th grade teams. Same with VA Metro. There is definitely room for another high school girls club. |
Mostly true except that there are a few every year who do make the trek to Baltimore for those teams. Plus every once in a while a dissatisfied Capital player, who maybe got screwed over in placement, will move to Skywalkers. I can think of 3 girls who have done this in the past few years. |
Cardinal, and I believe the other HS teams, do not stick to their MS players when recruiting for 9th grade. They know there is other talent and will cut. Honestly, most clubs on the MS level are not keeping players, they are always looking for who will make the team better. The HS teams keep their folks. |

| Why bother even mentioning Rebels, it’s a lower class club |

There definitely is room for another high quality girls lax team in the DMV. Options and the opportunity to make choices about where to commit a player's valuable resources, like time and money, are a good thing for everyone!
To the shade-thrower/s: whether it is a choice you would make yourself or not, that can be up to you. There is no need to cast shade in defense of your own choice. It only makes you come across as strident and insecure. Best wishes to the coach and the upcoming 2022 Panthera team. There is room for you on the field and many of us are glad to see you taking your place! |
| Lol, kudos to the above poster for trying to stay positive |

True, in theory, but the reality is that Cardinal, MC Elite and VA Metro, which are all teams the girls cut from Capital try to join, do usually keep many if not most of their previous players. Just ask around. Tryouts are supposed to be open but these clubs go with the girls they know all most of the time. If a player isnt good enough to make Capital she isnt likely to make a big enough splash at one of these other clubs to beat out a known player. As for HS teams keeping their players - that has been the model but its changing. Capital, as of last year, requires a try out every single year of HS. Not many girls will be replaced but it has already happened that a new player beat out a returning player. Since Capital is the premier team in this area, look for other clubs to follow suit. |

| No, your own club has already assessed that you are not strong enough to be on the top team. Colleges will consider this too so in my opinion (2 daughters who have a played on top college teams at strong academic institutions) you are better off playing on MC Elite or Cardinal if you can’t make Capital A if the goal is to play college lacrosse. |
LOL, just trying to keep it real. A monopoly does no one any good. That's what makes the Baltimore market so appealing. They have a wide array of high caliber teams. The DMV needs to work to achieve that to improve the sport for our girls. |
Skywalkers posts home towns and high schools with its roster info on its web site, maybe one dc area girl per team. M and D currently draws almost all its girls from Baltimore, Howard, Carroll, and Harford county. Of there are less than 5 dc area girls fron the dmv playing on Baltimore area teams, it must isn’t going to have much of an effect on the dmv clubs. |
Not really true. Hereos and M&D both currently have B teams that play in the A division. The top 45 players on a established club may be better than thr top 22 on a newer club or may not be. |
| I agree with the post that a monopoly does nobody any good and that multiple club teams are a positive, but the reality is that some monopolies, like Capital with talent and coaching and college recruitment, offer something that is very difficult to replicate by any other club team in the area. Capital offers a proven best product, and I think parents are especially keen on the college placement part of it. Lacrosse offers a way into top colleges. I don’t know one parent who would take a chance on a team like Panera or Cardinal if their daughter is good enough for Capital, Blue or Orange. Teams like Cardinal, etc., can really only aspire to be like Capital, and I think Panera will find itself in the same situation. That’s not to say that Panera won’t be successful; it probably will if it can pull some decent coaches (I’ve heard they’ve already tried to raid some of the Capital coaches with no success), but will it ever supplant Capital as the best? I just don’t think so. But they will fill a niche like Cardinal does. |
