Electric or hybrid car recommendations?

Are any of the plug-ins comfortable for all drivers? Like 6’5”

I really want a plug in for my next vehicle but there aren't enough charging stations around me to make it worthwhile right now.

If you aren't driving around a lot, just install a charging plug at your house and you should be fine. I had a friend who is replacing his leased Nissan Leaf with a Tesla 3. He installed a plug (much like an appliance plug for a washer or dryer) for just a few hundred dollars (ballpark like $300-400). His Leaf got around 250 miles to a charge and with the appliance plug, he could fully charge the battery from near empty to full in about 2 hours. Less if you were starting from mid-way charged instead of near empty. For a commuter car, this should be fine for most people.

That’s level 3 charging. We have a leaf and have never gotten 250 miles after a charge, the max is 103. Are you sure it’s a Leaf? Maybe a Tesla.

NP- I don't think you can put level 3 charging in your house... I think prior pp is super confused and giving inaccurate information. The Leaf has never been able to run 200 miles, the new version barely hits 150.

You can install a level 3 but it is very expensive and not good for the battery to charge that way all the time. Agreed the other Pp is confused.

Does everybody who is driving an electric have their charger in a garage? I'm wondering about any issues involved in having an electric without a garage.

It's not necessary. I have a friend who parks in the driveway and I think there's someone in my neighborhood who parks on the street. The technology is designed to be weatherproof even in rain, snow or ice.

No one has L3 charger in their home. Most people don't even need a level 2 charger (having L2 for a volt seems like overkill to me but ymmv). Basically thebquestion is how long you want to drive between charging. If you drive 30 miles a day and are ok plugging the car in every night then you probably would do fine with just plugging the car into a wall outlet.

BTW EVs are much more fun to drive than most ICEs.

I have a 2015 Leaf and plug it into my normal outlet in my garage. We have three cars but only a two car garage, so I also park it outside, even when charging. I haven’t had a problem in the 8 months I have owned it. It is a great little car, perfect for trips around town. I only get 75 miles per charge but that is fine for problably 90% of my driving. It takes about 15 hours to charge from empty on the 110 outlet.

+1 for a Tesla. Get in line for a Tesla 3 if you can wait at least a year.

Husband just bought a Honda Clarity. Is a plug in hybrid; will go some distance just on battery but then has a gas tank too, think range is about 350 miles. He got the touring edition with the high end electronics (GPS, right side camera view if turn signal is on, adaptable cruise, lane keeper, etc). Plugs it in to hour house current overnight in the garage. Looks real nice, sportier sedan. Hope is has the usual Honda long life and dependability.

Son in law has Nissan Leaf; problem is it has no gas engine back up at all. Can’t use it for road trips or longer travel, would be no use at all if had to evacuate in an emergency. Have to know where plug in station is and hope somebody else isn’t already parked there.
