Probably. In my DD's Algebra 2 class, they have only 3 white kids, 2 of which were rejected by TJ. DD knows at least 12 Asian kids from her class that were accepted.

Which school?
Longfellow.

If kids start Algebra 1 in 7th grade, how do they get to algebra 2 in 8th?
DD takes both geometry and algebra 2 in 8th. She wanted to skip algebra 1 entirely because she already knew it, but FCPS didn't allow that and said she can take 2 math classes in 8th instead. Her love of math is exceptional though. If she didn't get into TJ, McLean High told her she can take AP statistics in 9th.

Parents suggesting their kids take Algebra 2 in 8th should read various Math 4 threads in the AAP forum.
