Unpack family at hotel — do you fill the drawers?

I don't get the ick factor. I'm sleeping on their mattresses; if I'm okay with that, putting clothes into wooden drawers is no big deal.

Same. It's a drawer, typically wooden. What do you think is "living" in there? Wipe it out with an antibacterial wipe if you must. I'd be more worried about sitting on the bedspread or using the tv remote.

Bed bugs. Seriously. I keep my suitcase in the bathtub.

Nothing is coming home from the dresser that isn’t already coming home from your pajamas/clothing from the bedding, your shoes from the floor, your jacket from the closet, etc. If they’re there, then they’re there and no bathtub storage is going to help.

+1

I totally unpack so that I can see everything.

I unpack into the drawers and dirty clothes go back in the suitcase

I don't unpack, but that's just because I'm lazy.

+1. Of all the nasty things you will encounter in a hotel, the dresser is the least of your concern. This comes from a 100+ nights a year in a hotel business traveler.

OP here. I am trying to overcome my germaphobe upbringing. But yeah bedspreads i avoid at all costs and tv remotes are avoided as much as possible.

But I see the utility of using the drawers, and agree if bed bugs are there you are done fore regardles

I think the drawers are fine. I could not sleep in a place where I was afraid to put my clothes in the drawers. You guys’ OCD regarding germs is odd.

We use luggage rack for one suitcase, the other goes on the desk with backpacks, but makes the space so crowded.

Do folks unpack their suitcase and bags into the drawers and desks? Seems kind of ick, wish they just had a row of fancy luggage racks and hooks for bags.

Ick? How old are you? Just do what your mom says.

I love the cube idea. But I would still spray the drawers with Lysol or at least wipe them out with Clorox wipes. We also throw dryer sheets in the luggage and drawers, my dh read something about that somewhere.

If I'm going somewhere local/driving I only bring hang up clothes. The only things in the suitcases are toiletries/ underwear/ pajamas/ swim.

I always unpack my stuff (even if it is only one night) and put it in the drawers and on hangers in the closet. The rest of the family lives like heathens out of their suitcases. If there are not enough luggage racks then they put their suitcases on the floor against the walls. Nothing goes on top of the desk because we usually need that space to put stuff like phones or brochures or purchases, etc.

Did not know about the packing cubes. I pack all my outfits in seperate 2-gallon ziplock bags. Underwears, socks, toiletaries in smaller ziplock bags. I unpack as soon as I am in the hotel and I do not remove them from the ziplock bags. I do wipe down everything with disinfectant wipes/spray.

PSA - I never ever drink anything from the glass tumblers or the coffee pot. I worked for many years with a hotel company (rhymes with chariot) and I knew that housekeeping was using used guest towels to clean everything from toilet pots, tumblers, sink and floor. If you do need to use it, makes sure you wash with soap and hot water.

Easiest way to check for bedbugs is by inspecting the seams of the mattress. The crevices is where they hide.

If you've had bed bugs (as we have...it was a $1000 disaster to clean)...you do not unpack, you do not use the drawers, you keep everything off the ground and pray you don't get them again.

If we are staying more than 1-2 nights, yes I unpack. I don't want to dig around in the suitcase to find stuff. Especially for my kids. Their clothes are small and easy to toss in the big drawers.

Then I keep one drawer for dirty clothes and put those all in there as we go.

If you are so grossed out by a hotel you should not be staying in a hotel. Have fun with your staycations!
