OMG She wore this?????

I also sort of disagree with a PP that thinks Michelle should not try to look stylish in these hard times. Thank God that finally someone is trying to look good! Just because the country is not doing all that great at the moment, it is no reason for Michelle Obama to look like Hilary Clinton.

Stylish? Sorry, But I think it's ugly. Granted, that's just my opinion. Also, to the PP who said that this must've been the last thing she had left after all the other dresses didn't work out?
I doubt it, this is Michelle Obama-First Lady of the USA. She doesn't have the "Ive tried on everything in my closet and nothing fits" problem that most of Americans have.

I agree. I didn't mind the shorts, or anything else she's worn. But this is a party dress. Completely, completely inappropriate for such a sad, somber occasion. It makes me think that she's stopping by the funeral because she's MUST, but then she's going out dancing afterwards or something - and didn't bother even pretending.

Agree. I called it a party dress, but in the back of my mind I was thinking "secretary's party dress." Ugly and a little cheesy and would be great on Mad Men.

I am the PP who said this must be the last thing she had left in her closet. I am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. I can't imagine who would wear that to their own child's Medal of Honor Ceremony, so it is difficult to imagine the rationale for wearing it to someone else's.

I agree that she dressed for "date night" or whatever they were doing later. Sleeves, now that it is October, are not a bad thing. The shoes are also totally inappropriate, you wear black or navy to somber events.

Just reading all the news again about Afghanistan this morning and the weighty decision-making there, it just makes me sad that such a poor decision was made about what to wear to this ceremony for an American fallen there so recently. It may be small, but I just want to see that this administration has the military's back, 100%, whether they stay in Afghanistan go on to another engagement or come home. We are at war, and as a nation at war, we can do better to support those at the tip of the spear. I think to the moral support Queen Elizabeth showed her people in WWII--staying in London during the bombardment etc. Yet I can't imagine her not donning a little pair of white gloves for a ceremony like this, little white gloves, a hat, and the greatest soberness in the face of the greatest sacrifice.

This.

If it truly was the last thing in the closet, she should have just not gone to the ceremony.

Love that dress.
But she shouldn't have worn it then.

I admit the dress deserves an "Oops!", but take a look at some of the responses on YouTube:

That UGLYASS sheman? has ZERO class, and aparently her zookeeper handlers have none either.
One can? dress a monkey up like a clown but it's still a monkey.
She a class sheboon?

I don't think these represent a large portion of the population, and I absolutely do not link them to anything said on this board. But knowing that even a few of my countrymen (or women) write such things is embarrassing.

I posted the above, but have no idea where the two extra question marks came from; they did not appear while I was writing it. BTW, the misspelling of apparently was in the original.

Yes--that level of vitriol is unwarranted. But the level of anger by some does not make her choice any less of a let-down for everyday regular people. I hope she does better in future; symbols matter (at least when you are operating at the presidential level).

I would never wear that, but I thought she looked good.

She looked good, but it was totally, cluelessly (?) inappropriate for a somber memorial ceremony. NOW-- if they all just switched outfits, everyone would be appropriate :

Get humor! This picture is hilarious. I love these two goth prime ministers daughters--and maybe one of them can lend Mrs. Obama a black dress...
