Oakton HS

Disagree. Oakton has always been a very welcoming school compared to the schools surrounding it even back to the 80's and 90's because it pulls from many elementary and middle schools. It is fairly affluent, but with many pockets that are more middle class as well including right around the school. It also has some racial diversity and has always done well on ratings and test scores.

I do not have a child there now, but have heard it is still welcoming.

Oakton had homecoming the same night as TJ this year and kids from both schools were at a country club with a lot of members of Oakton kids for the pre-dance festivities. The difference in appearance between the 9th and 10th grade girls from TJ and the 9th/10th grade girls Oakton was really eye opening. I get that I am too old to be cool and parenting boys, but girls from TJ wore dresses that were more classic and ... less slutty. No other word for it. Dresses did not require fashion tape and a thong Several parents said the same thing later in an unrelated setting. And this was a swarm of kids from both schools, not just a handful.

It just really felt like the Oakton girls were growing up faster.

What’s the matter? Did an Oakton girl turn down your TJ kid for a date? She probably knew he wouldn’t hit puberty until college.

Ohhhh, he’s hit puberty. And being good with computers is good with covering his tracks on exactly what sites he is browsing. Although he. I’d forget we could check the router.

Seriously—less than nothing against the Oakton kids. And you would expect them to express themselves differently than the TJ kids. But, they are clearly growing up faster. And I am saying that as nicely as I can. Let’s try this—-Trying sex and alcohol and pot earlier.

The FcPS youth survey is what Op wants. I k pin ow the county wide data is released. And parents are given the school specific data. This will tell you how many 10th and 12th graders in in FCPS drink, use POt, have sex, etc. the numbers and oervpcents are there.

Many kids in fcps make up answers or answer the most extreme possible option on the youth survey.

That think is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Is this too factual for you? Or would you prefer to keep talking about how demure TJ students are?

Oakton has a similar building to West Springfield.

Are they getting the same renovation? If so it is a gorgeous renovation.

It also says a lot about you for enabling the description of the girls' dresses as "slutty." Perhaps Middle America would be a better fit for you.

Why does this bother you so much? Girl's dresses were very short, tight, and with a lot of exposure. Does that make you feel better?

Yes, actually, it does. Because that is a physical description of what you see. It lacks the moral judgment that says if a girl dress that way she is slutty. Of course, clothes do not equate to "slut" (however you define it, which is another problem with using it).

Surely, even you understand that difference?

The TJ kids may be an exception. They are all about taking tests and giving the "right answers."

Nope. Even the TJ kids do the same thing. Make up responses to make it look worse than what it really is.

There was a presentation about the renovation a few weeks ago at the pta meeting. I thought the renovation was beyond 2020. Is that the new info? How is it for the kids being out in the trailers?

I'm not sure what went wrong, when! Do you people honestly think it's OK for a 14/15 year old girl to wear clothes showing a lot of flesh? What do you think goes through their mind when they do dress like that? Are they dressing like that because their normal clothes make them sweaty or are they dressing like that perhaps to attract the attention of the opposite sex? for what? Shouldn't the focus of kids in HS be education and not waste time attracting the opp. sex? There's so much time to do that once you are an adult.. Unless girls/women break free from this need to attract the opposite sex they will never really be equal to men. What are we doing to empower them? (Hint: right to wear revealing clothes is not empowerment).

Can you please start another thread. Because your characterizations of what you observed at one school event - where you apparently concluded you were able to discern which students were from Oakton and which were not, even though you don't have a kid at the school - aren't providing much insight as to the school as a whole. Plus, you're annoying as eff.

More like the Middle East.

It's all of the high schools around here- not just an Oakton thing. Somehow revealing clothing has become acceptable and it's almost like "how far can I go with revealing myself" kind of mentality. I always feel bad for the girls in the super low cut dresses- they look so awkward.

awkward, trashy, low class. BTW, hear about the college gals on spring break at South Padre? Why do they act like this?

Because they are liberated women. They can choose to not wear clothes if they don't want to. No other reason. Trust me.

Leave them alone. Don't spoil it for the boys..

o.k., good point. I don't hear them complaining.

How much of this was due to the TJ girls being 50% Asian, who knows. But anyway, "son, you'll want to bang the Oakton girl and marry the TJ girl."
