Best way not to get pissed off

Pack a hand fan and a Mars Bar.

1) recognize that every place has its charms and try to find them
2) prepare for the heat. Wear cotton and linen
3) take things as they come. The food, the experience, etc.

I think you should fast while you are there, and sweat. Think of it as a fancy spa.

Pack a lot of power bars and stick to drinking soda and beer — only things from a can.

I once made the mistake of accepting a cocktail in Peru. The ice gave me Montezuma’s Revenge after I successfully avoided it for a week.

No, most 3rd world countries do not have McDonald's or any other American chain restaurants.

A good amount of KFCs IN Africa. I lived in 2 African countries and I will tell you, their KFC is so good. The chicken has less fat. I dream of KFC in Africa and always visit when I go back. My kids tried KFC when we moved back here and HATE KFC US. It is so different.

Oh and BTW, so consider the ENTIRE continent 3rd world. Even South Africa. Especially SA depending on how you choose to spend your time there.

Embrace it. Learn that people can be happy without AC and ice. Learn that your way is not the only way or the best way. People watch and embrace the different ways people greet and talk and eat and move. Find the beauty in them. Be out of your bubble...just BE. Use all of your senses to navigate and explore.

When you get home appreciate what you have, but hold on to the fact that there is a big wide beautiful world out that, and our differences are what makes us all special.

Get on a plane and go home

Why did you go? Since you're not enjoying yourself, did you just feel like torturing yourself and paying a lot of money to do so? You could have stayed at home and been pissed off for free, since you are probably very hard to please, cannot go with the flow, and have no idea how to loosen up and have fun.

It's "developing country" not third world.

I didn't think people said "third world" any more--it's a relic of the Cold War.

I thought developing country was actually different than third world--as in the developing country is taking steps to modernize, but a third world country is showing no progress.
