Increase of MS-13 in public schools--this seems like a real problem we need to address

This. The Post had an article on this issue a month or so ago, describing how they target recent (mostly illegal) immigrants, typically from Central America.

The OP must be a trumper.

There was a very knowledgeable poster on a recent thread, who seems to have some connection to law enforcement. Basically, the takeaway was that MS-13 is LESS of a problem now than it was 10 years ago. Less of a problem than 3 years ago. Less of a problem than a year ago.

So, basically OP's entire premise is wrong. There is no increase.

Now, there is still MS-13 and the major targets are other undocumented immigrants.

So...how do we go about creating and sustaining an environment in which undocumented immigrants feel comfortable involving law enforcement to fight gangs?

If OP is serious about wanting to combat MS-13, the first step is to make sure that undocumented immigrants feel comfortable in contact with law enforcement. They need to know that reporting a crime will not result in having their papers questioned. In other words, they need a sanctuary county that will not enforce immigration offenses when no other offense is in place.

What you say is true for legal immigrants, but not illegal immigrants.

No, PP is right. Illegal immigrants also commit less crime here on America soil than American-born people do. News outlets just tend to sensationalize their crimes more.

"Lott found that over the past 33 years, illegal immigrants have constituted an average of 4.8 percent of Arizona’s population. Yet during that same 33-year period, illegal immigrants constituted 11.2 percent of those convicted of crimes in Arizona — more than twice their share of the population. Lott found that illegal immigrants were dramatically more likely to be convicted of a homicide-related offense than either native-born Americans or legal immigrants during that 33-year period — 163 percent more likely to be convicted of first-degree murder and 168 percent more likely to be convicted of second-degree murder. “Undocumented immigrants were also consistently more likely to be convicted of manslaughter, armed robbery, sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault, DUI or DWI, and kidnapping.”"

When the CATO Institute thinks your study is bullshit, it is probably bullshit. https://www.cato.org/blog/fatal-flaw-john-r-lott-jrs-study-illegal-immigrant-crime-arizona

I am a Montgomery County Police officer and the amount of crime committed by undocumented immigrants FAR exceeds that of regular citizens.

Hell no. Undocumented aliens can get deported. They do not get to feel safe here. What a bunch of liberal BS.

This is why it is hard to get a handle on MS-13 (a gang homegrown here in America, by the way). If you create a climate in which victims will not come forward, it becomes impossible to effectively investigate or prosecute gang crimes.

Well that is the downfall of breaking a federal law I guess. It’s exactly what keeps this gang corrupt. They can go back to the country they should be in. No one is forcing them to sneak in here.

Their choices are stay here with a possibility of a better life vs go back home with zero possibility of a better life. They aren't going to go back willingly, and if you make them fear reporting crimes, then violent crime (not a "misdemeanor" visa overstay) will just go unpunished and unfettered.

So I guess that it’s ok with you if they proliferate in the public schools and torment other illegal immigrants, but how do you think you’ll feel when they develop enough hubris to kill white people? Is it going to bother you then?

I’ve always loved the hit and run culture when they have a car accident. They will even flee their car and then later tell you/insurance they were not driving it and you can’t prove that they were (traffic cams can tho). Must have been a cousin or someone else. Works in Central America!
