In any case, they aren't just referencing general dangers in a metro area now....they are specifying neighborhoods to avoid. We are not going to those areas while the threat/warnings remain in effect. If that means we cancel our plans...it is what it is. We are still debating where to rebook in Cancun, but hotel prices are sky high now. Not sure it is worth salvaging our flights or just chucking the whole thing (assuming nothing changes).
Sounds like you're looking at this very logically and rationally. And I love Mexico. But I also don't think I'd want to stay in those neighborhoods. Just like I stopped taking the second class buses across the country after there were a number of hijackings. It's smart to pay attention to specific threats and adjust plans accordingly.
