Are you guys really this dense??? Sexism happens anywhere and everywhere. This is not an issue of STEM or this particular school. I remember a teacher in middle school who did this same thing when I was in school in the mid-80s in NJ. I still think about how wrong and horrible that teacher was!
The issue is harassment. The issue is that this happens even to our youngest girls... in all kinds of settings. And our girls don't know how to handle this and people in charge do not take this seriously. |
Superintendent from '91 to '99 was Paul Vance. Followed by Weast. |
Absolutely the big issue is simply harassment and hostile environment. However the guy also had pet theories about female intelligence. He's working in a subject where women are under represented and working to keep it that way. |
"gd the magnets"? Is that you Mr. Dotard or your Ruski master! |

This is not sexism. This is sexual harassment.
In his mind, he has not done anything wrong because he did rape anyone or had intercourse. It is another entitled sexually perverted White male who has abused his power. He may think he is better than the "pussy grabber" in the White House, but really he is no different. |

This is child sexual abuse per the law. Harassment, yes. But also child sexual abuse. I have been telling the schools in meetings and in writing for 6 years they need to fix their sexual harassment policy to clearly state sex crimes against children by staff are also child abuse. I have implored them to clearly state these things should be reported to police and cps. They have not made a single change.
If parents / students / other staff had gone to police / cps over the years with the guy at Blair......instead of reporting it to the very people who were condoning it and enabling it...maybe it would have ended sooner. Today, I emailed Jack Smith, AGAIN, and members of the BOE, AGAIN, asking for change. I fully expect, unless more people get involved, they will refuse to act. Derek Turner says in the article they don't know how this happened but they will find out and correct it. It happened in the same way, at the same time all the other sexual abuse happened in MCPS. Because they allowed it to happen. Google these names: Lawrence Joynes, Daniel Picca, John Vigna, Jose Pineda, Joshua Greenburg. Let me know if you want more, there are a lot. BTW, as of this moment, the MCPS harassment policy still tells students the following - instead of telling them to report to Police / cps Dating or sexual relationships between employees/adult volunteers and students is prohibited. Actions for Students If you believe that you are the target of sexual harassment or the focus of inappropriate behavior, you should report such incidents to your parents and school authorities. You may report the information verbally or in writing to the principal, a guidance counselor, a teacher, or another staff person. http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/info/sexualharassment/ |

Sexism means something other than what is on this thread's title. Sexism means a preference to choose males over females for jobs, opportunities, pay and human rights.
Sexual abuse and harassment is something other. This was sexual abuse and sexual harassment. |
Read the article carefully, there's evidence of both. E.g. Discouraging girls to apply to MIT because there are too many horny boys. If he were just singling out girls as sexual targets, it would be bad enough, but there's more to it. |
Also that girls aren't as good at math as boys. I agree, both sexual harassment and sexism. |
And suggesting future brain science will support him in this belief. |
| Walstein was sleazy due to his own issues. Yet, we are seeing a lot of overlap with kids not feeling adequate in high school, spilling decades later. Still inadequate, and still feeling bad about themselves, due to parenting or other issues, self image, etc, projecting onto Walstein, decades later. A lot of gray area. |
Fixed that for you. |
BS, there are named accusers in the article, one of whom l know is extremely accomplished and still on the upward trajectory of her career. |
| He is probably going to keep his nice pension no matter what. |
That's the issue you're upset about? |
