My DCs class size at WOTP elementary has been 20-23.

If your child needs smaller class size / school.

Try for Key, Mann, Hyde, Murch, Eaton. If you were to luck out and get into any of those, you have a nice bath to Hardy Middle School which might be a good fit for middle school.

Lafayette and Janney are really large schools.

But does that mean their class sizes are bigger than other WOTP schools?

No, it does not necessarily mean that. It all comes down to how large the pool of students for a particular grade. If there are 44 3rd graders, a principal can easily declare there will be two 3rd grade classes of 22. It gets sketchier when the numbers tick up to point where the principal has to decide if he/she should add another classroom (and if the school has the space). So, let's say there are 58 3rd graders...does the principal have two classes of 29 kids or does the principal add a 3rd classroom so that you have roughly 19 students per class and then go to the waitlist to fill them up a bit more to justify the cost of the additional teacher? This same decision making takes place at every school weather it's a little one like Hearst or a big on like Janney.

They have big grades, but small to average classes.

You might also consider Ross. K is impossible OOB, but they do lose students in the upper grades as families move out of the boundary area. Ross feeds to SWW@FS for middle school, and that is definitely a small MS.

I do not know how Ross gets away with it - but their 4th and 5th grade classes are tiny. They should absolutely be required to take students up to a certain count (maybe 20?)

Yes--I was looking for a small class size for 5th grade for this year and would have loved Ross for my kid. But they didn't take any OOB 5th graders and only have 12 of them this year. Someone on a different thread said the principal doesn't like taking new kids who could bring down the test scores.

That may be a school based decision, there always gives and takes

This is not true at Lafayette. 5th grade hovers at 27-28. It is grade dependent, but most schools WOtP have large classes.

No, not necessarily. It probably depends but that is the largest I have heard. K last year was hovering in that range and they added another class at Lafayette, bringing the class size down to 20ish.
