Ashburn schools

We live in Broadlands South community. Walking distance to Mill run elementary and Eagle Ridge middle school. High school is Briar woods high. Love all schools!

Don't even ask about it if your child has an IEP.

Good lord the drama. You make these sound like failing schools LOL. I've had a perfectly fine experience with IEPs as a parent and educator in LCPS.

LC schools are not up to par with neighboring counties. Why are our sat scores so much lower?

Your "perfectly fine experience" as a parent with a child with an IEP is not representative of what other parents experience. But then, you work for the school system so that is no surprise here. I love how you dismiss someone who has reservations about special ed in LCPS. Drama indeed. Services are being stripped to unacceptable levels, parents are retaliated against for questioning, we have a shortage of trained special education staff and VDOE is investigating.

Kids are forced to change schools often. There is no stability. The growth causes so many problems for the school system.

There is grade inflation in HS. Parents wonder if high schools are preparing students for college courses. Watered down high school AP courses.

The realtor told me that the community voted against having a school in the neighborhood, which was a huge turn off to me as far as the mindset of the neighborhodd.

Anyway, the neighborhood is actually split into two different elementary schools. Just FYI.

If you don't want to get rezoned, I would try to move physcially close by to the schools you want to attend.

have you looked at Brambleton or South Riding? They are both built out so the school situation might be more predictable.

Have you been to Brambleton recently? It has more new houses being built than any other area of Ashburn. You're more likely to avoid rezoning in central Ashburn (Farm and Village) and Broadlands.

Hi, neighbor!

Our only complaint is no Full-Day K, but that's just a year.

I'd pick Belmont over Willowsford for the same reasons others have noted regarding no neighborhood elementary school. In general, the schools in Ashburn are great. Also, we have several friends in Willowsford and it is just SO far out there. I find the narrow, dark roads scary at night and although I love some of the houses out there, I'd never buy there. We've lived in Belmont Greene and Belmont Country Club. They rezoned Belmont CC for a newly built HS a few years ago and everyone freaked out, but most seem happy now. Belmont Greene is walking distance to Stone Bridge HS and it seems like a coveted school (no personal experience).
