Best time to take the "Economics and Personal Finance" course?

Anybody's child take AP Micro/Macro along with Precalc and AP World in 10th? Too much?

That sounds like an awful lot. I thought 10th graders were encouraged to start slow with just AP World and MAYBE toss in AP Human, AP Stats or AP Music Theory?

DS did itthe summer before 9th. Did strings/ band camp in the morning. A couple of hours of self paced EPF in the afternoon (and played Minecraft during part of that time). Finished the 5 week class in 3 1/2 weeks. It is NBD/minimal effort if your kid remembers it is pass fail and keeps moving. Maybe 40 hours total? Or even less. No in person Sessions (unless you want to sit for the WISE certification) no set time each day to check in, no teacher contact.

DD is doing it May- June of 8th in case she gets into TJ. They will not let you take EPF plus a summer school class. Her extracurricular will be winding down, and she is organized, so she will be fine.

Just take the self paced version and not the school year session, which is supposed to be a lot more work.

Coming from an FCPS student:

Take the summer session if you want to get the requirement over with and not have the class interfere with your schedule

Take the basic personal finance class if you want an easy A

Take AP Econ if you want an AP to make your resume look good, especially if you want to be a business major or something related to money.

Kids pass this class who don't even speak English. Your child should be fine.

Parent of two kids who did the online summer class last summer (rising 11th and rising 9th graders). I think the above student advice is the best given yet on this thread - bravo FFX student! The only thing I would caution about the "easy A" advice is that if you are an advanced student taking numerous honors/AP/IB courses, this A in a course without a .5 or 1 point GPA boost will actually bring your overall GPA down - if you care about that sort of thing.

Another option is to take the course as an online option during the school year (I think they call it "8th period) - which means they take it on their own, online, but they have the whole year to complete it. I know one person who did this who said that the biggest pitfall was having the discipline to actually remember to do the work and not save it all up to the last minute.

My kids initially took the very careful approach and spent a lot of time on this course and were miserable for the first week. They really just couldn't get the concept of pass/fail into their heads. But once they got the hang of that, they moved pretty quickly through the material. I know numerous kids that just took the assessments without reading the modules, but, for better or for worse, my kids are rules followers - so they still skimmed the modules
