Parent of two kids who did the online summer class last summer (rising 11th and rising 9th graders).  I think the above student advice is the best given yet on this thread - bravo FFX student!  The only thing I would caution about the "easy A" advice is that if you are an advanced student taking numerous honors/AP/IB courses, this A in a course without a .5 or 1 point GPA boost will actually bring your overall GPA down - if you care about that sort of thing.

Another option is to take the course as an online option during the school year (I think they call it "8th period) - which means they take it on their own, online, but they have the whole year to complete it.  I know one person who did this who said that the biggest pitfall was having the discipline to actually remember to do the work and not save it all up to the last minute.

My kids initially took the very careful approach and spent a lot of time on this course and were miserable for the first week.  They really just couldn't get the concept of pass/fail into their heads.  But once they got the hang of that, they moved pretty quickly through the material.  I know numerous kids that just took the assessments without reading the modules, but, for better or for worse, my kids are rules followers - so they still skimmed the modules ;-)
