Reading this thread made me remember that I forgot to tip housekeeping when I traveled 2 months ago. I feel terrible now. I wonder if I can call and leave a credit card tip or just let it go.

I always tip. I don’t go to vacation to count money and never have service people said no to couple of bucks. Luckily Dc and I are on the same page. What makes people not tip? Im grateful that there are people willing to work for 8 bucks an hour. I dont want to be that person. And if im so much better than them, the $100-$200 i tip on vacation is not going back to make a hole in my budget.

Depends. If it's a restaurant with a waiter then yes, I tip. If it's similar to the free breakfasts offered at a place like Embassy Suites, I would only put money in the tip jar at the omelette station.

OP. We get our own food from the buffet. We drink neither coffee or tea. They did clear the table. We were asked if we needed anything. This is the kind of place where you wait to be seated. The last 3 days I have not seen anyone tip. Doesn't mean no one does. I am a generous tipper but never had before for breakfast. DH wanted to and does and did. Not arguing just curious. My breakfast is typically a bowl of oatmeal which I get and often I will pick up the empty bowl and leave it on the side table on my way out. I am convinced I need to tip. Not a biggie.

Leave at least $1/diner at no-service buffets. If it's semi-service (you get your plate, but they get your coffee/juice and check in on you), I leave a couple dollars.
