Oh please. They should simply increase prices by 20 percent so they don’t force their clients to divvy up cash in tiny envelopes and write each person’s name on them. It’s silly. |
Some salons do this. Very few, but they are out there. The MOST annoying part of salon tipping to me is when they don't let you add to your credit card bill. I rarely carry cash so if I forget to bring some it's a hassle. |
You can add tip on the card in most salons. No need to carry envelope. |
| Not my experience. My experience is that most places do not let you add tip to the card---it must be separate cash. |
| I also give 20%. I don't like it bc I think tipping is out of control, but I do it. |
| I switched to a no tip salon. So much better. |

I don't like it either, because it is no longer something you give for good service-it's just expected and standard. I particularly hate the expectation that you tip the stylist, shampoo person, blow dry person, etc. At the (small) salon I go to, the owner cuts my hair. Etiquette used to state that you don't generally tip the salon owner, but it's clear to me that it is expected now. I have told her that I'm not tipping everyone separately, and that perhaps a tip share/pool might be the way to go, much like they do in restaurants.
It just needs to stop. I'll pay the price, and while we're at it, can we please switch to a VAT and stop adding it on top of everything? |

20%
why is this a question? |
Not in NY or DC. |
This. It’s like a tax except you’re only allowed to pay in cash and required to pay by divvying it up in little envelopes and write names on them. It’s so dumb. Justnincrease the price of the service by 20 percent and save everyone the hassle. |
I’m in the dc burbs and not at my salon either. Nail place just started the cash only tipping. It’s annoying since I don’t carry a lot of cash. If I have to pay tax on my income they should too. |
| 40 for color/cut. 5 for shampoo. |
