I presume you had to submit their APS student number on the application, right? That’s how they would de-duplicate.

Correct. Good point. Although, if they're unable to send a simple confirmation email with a few details, me thinks they're potentially unable to sift out duplicate submissions. But that's more likely wishful thinking on my part.
