The parent lamented that the PG county schools are too black and they wanted diversity for their child. The kid was transferred to a DC school. Why is anyone surprised that many county privates are majority black? We are a majority black county!!! We are also the wealthiest black county in the country! We need to take pride in that! You think those white folks in DC private schools really give a damn about the fact that there are only 25 black kids in their 400 student school?! They don't. And the ones who are there have to worry about being called the N-word or singled out as a kid on financial aid (when the truth is that most of the aid goes to white kids- but thats for another thread). Yet black folks wanna run to DC privates as if having mostly black children in a PG county classroom is so horrible. Some argue the kids arent as smart. Thats a lie. And it isnt the kids. It's the parents. If you worked with your kids more in math or whatever subject, they would be better at it. But no, youre waiting for the teachers to turn your kids into Einstein. You then you move your kid from the PG Private because you want him to be more advanced in, lets say, math. Assuming your kid is actually more advanced in math than his classmates, why not speak to the teacher about differentation? Ask that your kid be given more advanced math work if he is ahead of his peers. Especially if the school is otherwise a great school. This keeps the bright kids in the classroom. Iron sharpens iron. White folks got it right. Keep your children in classrooms with kids who look like them and share your values, norms and mores. Black folks in Prince Georges have plenty of money. Keep it here. Stop running off to DC privates. Signed, Reformed Former DC Private Parent
Perhaps the real question is why a wealthy black majority county has such low performing, with a few exceptions, public schools? Wealthy and UMC parents are usually more involved/invested in their child's education/schools. For the most part that is not evident in PG county public schools. Parents, whether black or white, need to look out for the best interests of their children and therefore make school choices accordingly.
