My elementary grade level went out for our normal 30 minute recess, but we are in FCPS.

Our FCPS Elementary school have kids the choice between indoor and outdoor recess. Both kids reported that in their grade, about 50% chose outdoor.

This is against the acceptable use policy for the iPads. Not to be used during indoor recess.

Our APS elementary did not. Apparently my kid had the most fun day of school ever though. They played with toys instead (kinder)

FCPS here, I have two kids at two different elementary schools. One (4th grade) went out, and we got a class-wide email from the teacher reminding everyone to send appropriate clothing as they will have outdoor recess every day. Other (2nd grade) did not go out, they have indoor recess.

The 2nd grader is at a Title 1 school, so I think there's less of an expectation that all kids will be able to afford gear appropriate for this kind of cold. 4th grader is at a more affluent school, where most kids have North Face or similar level of coats and everything you'd need to go skiing. Or maybe it's a grade level difference, I don't know.

Which school is violating policy? I HATE the iPads because of the very high potential for misuse and the uneven application across the system. I think we're going to bail for private soon. My advanced student finishes work quickly and is then allowed to use the iPad. Maybe it's an educational app, but I'd rather they gave student more advanced work that couldn't be finished so quickly so that child didn't rush and try to get in a "fix" of iPad use. Child is developing a very unhealthy relationship with technology. We have a lot of trouble at home because of it and have had to ban it all together.

I have a lot of friends that teach private and they all use ipads more in private than they do in public. Kids start to get access to them in kinder. I am not sure escaping to private will rid you of the ipad.

Schweet.

Its not that cold outside today.
A benefit of extended day at least they get to go to the gymnasium.

Our FCPS ES has the policy of no outdoor recess when it is below freezing outside, however "below freezing" seems to be 35-40 degrees. Our principal seems to think our kids are wimps.
